Why You're Still Stuck

12 June 2025 4 min read

You have read the books. You have done the therapy. You have journalled your way through more mornings than you can count. You understand your patterns. You can trace them back to childhood, to a particular parent, to a specific experience that shaped you. You have the language for it. You have the insight. And still, something feels immovable.

This is one of the most common things I hear from people who find their way to me. Not people who have avoided the work, but people who have done an enormous amount of it. Thoughtful, self-aware people who are genuinely confused about why understanding their patterns has not made those patterns stop.

I want to talk about why that is, because I think it is one of the most important conversations in the healing space right now.

The problem is not a lack of insight

Most people in the personal development world have extraordinary self-awareness. They know where their patterns come from. They have mapped their attachment styles, identified their inner child wounds, traced the threads of their family system. They are not naive about themselves.

And still, the pattern persists. Still, the same dynamic shows up in the new relationship. Still, the same self-sabotage arrives right when things start to go well. Still, the body holds the same tension, the same dread, the same hollow feeling that no amount of knowing seems to shift.

What I call the Integration Problem: knowing is not the same as healing. Insight is necessary, but it is not sufficient. Understanding why you do something does not automatically stop you from doing it. Something else has to happen. Something that reaches a different level of the system.

Where the block actually lives

The subconscious mind runs approximately 95% of our daily behaviour. It governs our automatic responses, our physical reactions, our habitual ways of seeing and interpreting the world. It formed before we had the ability to evaluate or choose, largely in the first seven years of life and reinforced by every significant emotional experience since.

The subconscious is not reading your affirmations. It is not moved by your journalling. It has its own operating system, and that system does not update through conscious intention alone.

I use the term Subconscious Thought Generator (STG) to describe the part of the subconscious that is constantly generating thoughts based on its programming. The STG is not a concept. It is a living, active process. Those thoughts filter your perception of reality, shape your emotional state, and inform every decision you make, often before your conscious mind has had a chance to weigh in. You think you are choosing, but frequently you are responding to what the STG has already decided is true about you, about others, about what is safe.

The STG does not distinguish between past and present. It is running programmes formed in 1987, or 1994, or whatever year the significant event happened. And it will keep running them until the energetic root is addressed.

What the subconscious is protecting

Beneath the patterns are trapped emotions: energetic charges from experiences that were too intense to fully process at the time. Limiting beliefs that formed as survival conclusions: "I am not enough", "Love is not safe", "If I shine too bright, something bad happens." Protective patterns that once served a real purpose.

These are not signs that something is wrong with you. They are signs that your system once encountered something difficult and found an ingenious way to adapt. The subconscious is extraordinarily good at protecting you. The problem is that the same adaptations that kept you safe as a child may now be keeping you small as an adult. The protection has outlived the threat, but no one has told the system that.

You cannot talk the subconscious out of its protective programming through conscious reasoning. It does not work that way. What it responds to is energetic resolution: actually clearing the charge, releasing the trapped emotion, updating the information that the system is running on.

Why conventional approaches often plateau

Talk therapy is extraordinary. I want to be clear about that. It builds self-awareness, helps process experiences, provides language and context for patterns that might otherwise feel incomprehensible. For many people it is a vital part of the journey. I am not suggesting abandoning it.

But talk therapy primarily operates at the level of the conscious mind. It works with narrative, with meaning, with understanding. And at a certain point, many people hit a ceiling, not because the therapy has failed, but because the work has reached as far as conscious processing can take it. The remaining block lives somewhere else.

Energy healing works directly with the subconscious. No need to revisit the story. No prolonged emotional processing. The body itself is the guide, and muscle testing allows the practitioner to communicate with it precisely: asking what is ready, what is held, what needs to be released. The conscious mind participates, but it does not lead. The body leads.

What actually shifts things

When trapped emotions are released, when the Heart-Wall clears, when the body's energy field comes back into balance, clients consistently report that something that used to feel heavy simply stops weighing on them. Not because they forced themselves to let it go. Not because they arrived at the right insight. But because the energetic root was addressed.

The situation may not have changed. But their relationship to it has. The trigger that used to flatten them produces only a small ripple. The pattern that used to run automatically starts to lose its grip. The inner voice that said "you are not enough" becomes quieter, not through suppression, but because the charge behind it has been cleared.

This is what shifts things. Not more understanding. Not more willpower. Not trying harder. Addressing the level where the block actually lives.

This is not about bypassing the work

I want to be clear about something: energy healing is not a shortcut. It is not a replacement for the awareness, the therapy, the personal development work you have already done. All of that matters. It has prepared the ground.

What energy healing offers is access to the layer that conscious approaches cannot reach on their own. It works with what everything else has already started. It is the missing piece, not the whole picture.

If you have done the work and something still feels stuck, you have not failed. You have simply reached the edge of what one set of tools can do. There is another layer. And it is reachable.

There is a way through.
